An olive grove is not just a place of cultivation – it is a space where nature and tradition exist in harmony. Here, rich biodiversity, native and rare olive cultivars, and daily work guided by the rhythm of the seasons come together.

Biodiversity refers to the variety of plant and animal life, which is increasingly endangered today.

Where tradition, nature, and the story of olive oil come to life

Fažana is one of the few places in Istria that once had an amphora workshop.

It may seem simple, but producing quality olive oil requires hard work, knowledge, and strength.

Istria’s unique location, where the Mediterranean reaches its closest point to the Alps, contributed to its strong economic development in the Roman Empire. Olive oil production and trade played a key role in this economy due to the oil’s nutritional value and rich flavour.

For maintenance, wooden boats were pulled out of the sea with carts on which the boat would sail onto pulled by a rope along the slipway for pulling out the boats.

The transformation of Fažana from a small, poor fishing town to an economic center and favorite tourist destination was considerably fast, as a result of the increased development of south Istria at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The life of the Middle Ages of Fažana and its surroundings logically continued on the tradition of the Classical and late Classical periods.

Estuaries of constant or occasional watercourses flowing into the sea are biologically highly productive places.

In the years before the outbreak of World War I positions are fortified on Veli and Mali Brijun, as well as Barbariga.

The numerous Marincovich family, that arrived from Komiža to Fažana by boat after the Battle of Vis in 1866, left an indelible imprint on the economic and social life of Fažana.

The Austro-Hungarian Navy invested in scientific-research and educational voyages with their sailing ships. In addition to several ships that sailed around the world collecting different experience and spreading information about the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, a beautiful steam-powered sailing ship promoted the name of Fažana all over the world.

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Fažana was surely the most photographed town in Istria thanks to Rodolfo Marincovich, entrepreneur, but above all professional photographer and film maker.

Horseback riding schools, excursions and other activities in nature, complete with enjoyments in gastronomic specialities of the area are an unavoidable part of this unique adventure.

A whole new world awaits you with snorkelling. Experience the wonder of Fažana’s history and maritime life beneath the waves.
