Sculptures, and benches, modern works of art along the waterfront suggest the call of tradition in modernity. From Roman presence, inspirational background of Antonio Smareglia’s works to the everyday life of fishermen, and relaxing experience of nature, each sculpture or bench offers a unique insight into Fažana’s story. Play an ancient game at the very site where freshwater flows into the shallow Valbandon Bay, and where A. Gnirs discovered remains of and ancient Roman villa complex. Immerse yourself in the ambiance of Antonio Smareglia’s pictorial and poetic music. The importance and influence of the small silvery blue fish – pilchard is best shown walking along the sculptor’s promenade “Pilchard park”, showing that the everyday life of fishermen, on land and sea, is both a reality and the town’s allegorical trademark. And sometimes there is nothing better than contemplating the beauty of a sunset, a rest of thought among the olive groves or enjoying in the graceful soaring of a grey heron.
